Genus of 80 species of medium to large evergreen bamboo from the deciduous forests of eastern Asia and the Himalayas. Phyllostachys pubescens is a giant, tufted bamboo with erect, robust, light green stems. It has many green lanceolate leaves. It can reach 14-18 m in height with canes reaching 15 cm in diameter at the base.
Pedoclimatic needs
Grow in fertile, moist but without waterlogging soil. Preferentially sunny or partial shade exposure. Particularly suitable for free hedges or to create small groves. Very resistant to cold -22°/-25°c. Tend to be invasive due to the underground rhizomes which spread out of proportion, it must be controlled by planting it in flower beds or delimiting it with guard ditches at least 70-90 cm deep or by burying a metal containment plate transversely to a depth of at least 70-80 cm around the entire area to be delimited. The young shoots that emerge from the ground at the end of winter can be eaten cooked and have an excellent flavor reminiscent of artichokes.Sowing
