Genus that includes approximately 120 species of evergreen, monoecious tree or shrub conifers, long widespread in the forests of the northern hemisphere from the Arctic Circle to Central America, Europe, northern Africa and south-eastern Asia. Pinus halepensis is an evergreen conifer that can reach a height of 15-20 meters. It has a twisted trunk and pyramidal foliage in young specimens, expanded and disordered in adult ones. The leaves are needle-like, light green in colour, 8-12 cm long. The male cones are small in size and yellow-gold in colour, while the female cones are woody and dark red when ripe.
Pedoclimatic needs
The Aleppo pine is among the most beautiful Mediterranean pines and is widespread along all the stony coasts of the Mediterranean. It adapts to any type of soil, even rocky, superficial and poor ones as long as they are well drained. It prefers a sunny exposure and is very resistant to dryness, wind and salt. It prefers a mild climate where temperatures do not drop below 0°C for long periods, but tolerates frosts that are not too long down to -10°/-12°C. In case of intense cold, young specimens must be sheltered.Botanical Information
