Evergreen climbing plant that reaches 4 meters in height. The leaves are alternate and dark green in colour, while the flowers, which appear in summer, are white, small and gathered in elongated inflorescences. The fruit is a drupe of about 5 mm in diameter, dark red in color when ripe, which once ground gives rise to the spice. The different types of the latter, black - green - white pepper, derive from the same plant, but the fruits are harvested and ground at different times in the ripening process and this causes the variety in the color of the grains.

Pedoclimatic needs

It adapts to any type of soil, preferring well-drained and fertile soil. Prefers exposure to partial shade sheltered from direct sunlight. A non-rustic plant, it loves a mild climate and cannot tolerate temperatures that drop below 10°C.
