Genus of about 200 species of deciduous or evergreen trees or shrubs, erect, rounded or occasionally spreading, very common in the temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere and up to the Andes of South America and the mountains of south-eastern Asia. Prunus spinosa is a bushy, bushy, thorny shrub or small deciduous tree, with elliptical to obovate leaves, more or less intense green. At the beginning of spring, before the leaves, numerous small white flowers appear, which bloom solitary, rarely in pairs, followed by the globular fruits, dark purple or black when ripe, covered with bloom which gives them a glaucous patina. It can reach 3-5 m in height.
Pedoclimatic needs
It adapts to all types of soil, even clayey and compact, as long as it is fresh and moist, although it prefers medium-textured, well-drained soil. Ideal species for the creation of impassable country hedges.Botanical Information
