Genus of about 600 species of monoecious, semi-deciduous or evergreen trees and shrubs, widely distributed in woodlands and scrub of the Northern Hemisphere. Quercus cerris is a majestic deciduous tree up to 40 m tall with a slender straight trunk and expanded foliage in isolated specimens. Dark green leaves, morphologically variable, but generally obovate with incised and marked lobes. Fruits large 5-6 cm, dark brown in colour.
Pedoclimatic needs
The plant adapts to all types of soil as long as it is deep and fresh, preferably siliceous or volcanic with a sub-acid reaction which ensures optimal growth, it does not disdain even clayey-compact ones. Rustic species, it tolerates cold and even intense and prolonged frosts up to -20°/-22°c. It should be planted in full sun and requires large spaces to allow the foliage to develop freely. It can tolerate strong winds.Sowing
From autumn to early winter. The seeds are recalcitrant, cannot be stored for long and quickly lose germination. They should be sown immediately after receiving them.Botanical Information
