Genus of about 600 species of monoecious, semi-deciduous or evergreen trees and shrubs, widely distributed in woodlands and scrublands of the Northern Hemisphere. Quercus robur is a large, majestic and long-lived deciduous oak that can reach up to 40 m in height. The initially pyramidal foliage in young specimens becomes globose and expanded in adult specimens. The trunk, robust and branched at a short height, has a grey-brown bark that is smooth and shiny when young, then darker and fissured. Sessile oval acorns, in groups of two or three on a long common peduncle, up to 4 cm long. With domes that cover about a quarter of it.

Pedoclimatic needs

It is a mesophilous, heliophilous species and resistant to winter cold (up to -18°/-22°C), it prefers the fertile, fresh and deep soils of the plains, even with shallow water tables but it also adapts to heavy and clayey, but without excessively prolonged stagnation. It does not tolerate drought and during the dry season the young plants must be watered regularly.

Sowing

From autumn to early winter. The seeds are recalcitrant, cannot be stored for long and quickly lose germination. They should be sown immediately after receiving them.
