The "male" cork is the one that is harvested for the first time from the tree, while the "female" cork is the one that is formed during subsequent harvests. The female cork is more homogeneous and is more suitable for the production of stoppers, while the male cork is characterized by a natural roughness, with numerous small ravines. Male cork, thanks to its particular characteristics, is ideal for the cultivation of epiphytic plants, as a support for climbing plants or as a precious component of terrariums, reptile houses, nativity scenes and decorative elements in general. Thanks to its natural composition, in addition to being remarkably insulating and light, it is also very long-lasting and practically impervious to rot.
