Genus of about 600 species of monoecious, semi-deciduous or evergreen trees and shrubs, widely distributed in woodlands and scrublands of the Northern Hemisphere. Quercus x bimundorum is a hybrid between q. Robur fastigiata and q. Sunrise. It is a deciduous oak, with an upright habit that can reach up to 30 m in height. The initially pyramidal foliage can partially widen in adult specimens. The trunk, which has a smooth grey-brown bark when young, cracks into plates in mature specimens. The lobed leaves, 5-8 cm long, are dark green in color and take on magnificent orange-red shades in autumn. The light brown acorns are oval, up to 4 cm long and have thick domes that cover about a quarter of the acorn.
Pedoclimatic needs
It prefers fertile, fresh and deep soils but also adapts to heavy and clayey ones without too prolonged stagnation. It does not tolerate drought and during the dry season the young plants must be watered regularly. It should be planted in full sun or partial shade. This species is rustic and tolerates even long and prolonged frosts down to -18°/-22°c.Botanical Information
