Genus of 250 species of shrubs and climbers, often thorny or bristly, deciduous or evergreen, sometimes herbaceous perennials found in various habitats, from coastal sand dunes to woods, forests and mountain slopes. Rubus fruticosus cv “Chester” is a semi-evergreen shrub with long stems that can reach up to 2/2.5 m in height. This highly productive American hybrid has flexible, thornless branches. Flowering occurs between May and June and the fruits, spherical in shape, are initially red and become bluish-black when fully ripe. Ripening occurs between July and September.

    Pedoclimatic needs

This cultivar is fast growing with the production of numerous shoots from the foot and abundant fruiting. Requires fresh, loose soil rich in organic substance. This species is fairly rustic and tolerates frosts down to -12°/-14°C. Brambles cannot tolerate drought and during the dry season require abundant and regular irrigation. They are ideal to train as climbers on networks, or to create rows and pergolas.
