Genus of 18 species of evergreen suffrutics, present in the dry rocky habitats of the Mediterranean regions. Santolina Etrusca is a compact and rounded suffrutix with a groundcover habit. The more or less prostrate stems are thickly covered with slender, narrowly oblong, toothed to pinnate, grey-white leaves, with thin toothed laciniae. At the beginning of summer the flowers bloom in light yellow flower heads. It can reach 60 cm in height and spread up to 2 m.7
Pedoclimatic needs
This species, endemic to central Italy, grows in arid and calcareous soils in Lazio, Tuscany and Umbria. Grow in poor to moderately fertile, well-drained soil in full sun. Partially rustic species, it resists short frosts down to -8°/-10°C. Very resistant to drought, it is ideal for covering flowerbeds or creating borders in sunny gardens without water.Botanical Information
