Sequoiadendron giganteum - giant sequoia - Seeds 0.1gr

An imposing tree that can reach a height of 90 metres, although in Europe it rarely reaches 50 metres. It has conical foliage and an erect trunk, which in the largest specimens reaches 10 meters in diameter. The branches are horizontal and have greyish-green needle-like leaves. In late summer it produces small, rounded pine cones. It is an exceptionally long-lived plant.

Pedoclimatic needs

Requires deep, fresh and well-drained soil. It prefers an exposure in full sun or partial shade. Plant for cool and humid environments that does not tolerate the Mediterranean climate with summers that are too hot and dry. However, it adapts magnificently to the Atlantic climate of Northern Europe with not too harsh winters and rainy summers. Rustic plant, it tolerates minimum temperatures reaching -20°/-22°c, although young plants must be kept sheltered in case of intense and prolonged frosts.
