Sophora japonica - sophora (Forest honeycomb)

Deciduous tree with upright habit up to 15 m in height. The foliage is expanded and very branched. Compound impartipinnate leaves up to 18/20 cm long, bright green upper surface and duller lower one. The flowering period is concentrated in the summer season, the flowers are gathered in small groups and are white or purple in color and give off a sweet scent. The fruits are characteristic jointed legumes containing black seeds.

Pedoclimatic needs

The plant adapts to all types of soil as long as it is free from stagnation. It prefers sunny exposures, but also tolerates partial shade. Very rustic plant, it is not afraid of frost and snow, even intense and prolonged ones down to -18°/-20°C.
