They have a cylindrical, slightly branched stem, which bears thick tufts of linear, persistent, hard, spiny leaves at the apex gathered in apical rosettes. The fruits are fleshy and black when ripe.
Pedoclimatic needs
If grown in open ground it prefers full sun exposures. This species is fairly rustic and can also be grown in northern Italy, tolerating temperatures down to -10°/-12°C without causing damage. The planting soil must be loose and without water stagnation. Plants grown in pots require warm, sunny environments, infrequent liquid fertilization, regular watering in summer and reduced watering in winter.Botanical Information
