Yucca elephantipes variegata cv mediopicta - variegated yucca (22 cm pot)
Yucca elephantipes variegata cv mediopicta - variegated yucca (22 cm pot)
Very long-lived arboreal succulent up to 8-10 m tall, with a robust erect stem, very branched and with a characteristic “elephant’s foot” basal swelling. Adult specimens have a very expanded and tufted crown, with numerous apices and an enormous swollen trunk that in old specimens can reach up to 6-7 meters in diameter. The leaves gathered in tufts at the apices of the stems are long, not too rigid, lanceolate, often with a concave blade and a sharp edge but without an apical spine. In this beautiful cultivar the leaves are variegated with numerous white streaks. In late summer - early autumn they produce beautiful inflorescences up to 80 cm tall composed of numerous creamy white flowers.
Pedoclimatic requirements
Grow in sunny or semi-shaded positions. It should be grown in substrates without stagnant water but rather rich, fresh and deep. Originally from the tropical areas of Guatemala, this species is fast growing but not very rustic and thrives where frosts are absent. To avoid damage, temperatures should not fall below -0°/-2°C for short periods. Very resistant to heat, it avoids very dry soils and during the dry season it should be watered regularly. It can also be grown in large pots.
