Very long-lived arboreal succulent up to 6-8 m tall, with robust and erect stem and characteristic "elephant's foot" basal swelling. Adult specimens have branched foliage, with several tips. This species introduced to Europe from America since the end of the 19th century is uncommon in cultivation and is one of the yuccas with the most beautiful flowering. The leaves are long, rigid, lanceolate with a terminal spine often with a concave blade. A very variable species, there are varieties with glaucous or flat leaves or with small gray filaments on the margins. The dried leaves remain attached to the trunk for a long time. In spring they produce beautiful inflorescences up to 1 m tall with numerous creamy white flowers.
Pedoclimatic needs
Grow in sunny positions. It should be grown in loose substrates and without water stagnation. This species is very rustic and resists temperatures down to -12°/-14°C without suffering damage. Very resistant to heat and drought, it is ideal for parks and gardens without water.Botanical Information
