Genus of plants from the Fabaceae family which includes around 300 species of small deciduous trees and shrubs widespread in all tropical areas. Bauhinia purpurea is a medium-small sized deciduous plant that can normally reach a height of 5-7 meters. The foliage has a rounded shape with thorny branches and bilobed leaves that resemble the imprint of a cattle hoof. It is characterized by a wonderful cluster flowering with pinkish purple flowers very similar to those of the orchid. The peculiarity of flowers is that they can have a life cycle of less than 24 hours. Species native to India and China.
Pedoclimatic needs
It adapts to all types of soil, preferring sandy ones, without water stagnation and with a good organic substance content. It prefers an exposure in full sun or partial shade. Non-rustic species that cannot tolerate intense and prolonged frosts and resists in climates where minimum temperatures do not fall below +2°/0°c.Botanical Information
