Genus of about 20 species of evergreen shrubs widespread in the stony soils of the Canary Islands, North Africa, Turkey and southern Europe. Cistus incanus is a compact shrub up to 120-150 cm tall, ovate to obovate green leaves, with deep veins and wavy margins. In summer it produces numerous purple-pink flowers with yellow stamens.
Pedoclimatic needs
Grow in loose, even stony, soil. Moderately fertile soils accelerate its growth. Moderately rustic species, it resists short frosts down to -6°/-8°C. Cists resist drought, wind and salt well and require sunny exposures. Due to these characteristics and the beauty of their flowering they are ideal for beautifying parks and gardens without water.Botanical Information
