Genus that includes 2 species of deciduous trees from the woods of China, Vietnam and North America. Liriodendon tupilifera is a large deciduous plant that can reach 50-55 m. It has a very branched erect trunk and pyramidal foliage in young specimens, oval when mature. The bark at a young age is smooth and light grey, while in adult specimens it appears wrinkled and cracked. The light green leaves take on beautiful yellow shades in autumn before fall. They are large in size and have the characteristic quadrilobed shape. The yellow spring flowers are very decorative and resemble tulips in shape and are faintly scented. In the park of Villa Besana in Sirtori (LC) there is a 52 meter tall specimen which is the tallest tree in Italy.
