Descriptions Genus of about 35 species of deciduous trees and shrubs from the woods of Europe, Asia and North America. Malus sylvestris is a small deciduous tree, often shrubby, up to 6-8 m tall. It has alternate, dark green, oval leaves with a serrated margin and a pointed apex. In spring it produces inflorescences made up of 4-9 white-pink flowers with 5 petals. Pollination is mainly carried out by bees. The fruit is a small, rounded apple with light yellow skin.
