Genus of 17 species of single or multiple trunk palms originating mainly from the tropical or subtropical forest or low scrubland of the Canary Islands, Africa, Crete, western and southern Asia up to the Philippines. Phoenix canariensis is a large dioecious palm with a solitary trunk, up to 20 m tall. It shows dark green pinnate leaves with spines in the basal part, up to 2m long. The flowers are small gathered in decorative inflorescences. The fruits are golden yellow in color, gathered in characteristic, very attractive bunches.
Pedoclimatic needs
It adapts to any type of soil as long as it is well drained. Partially rustic species, it resists short frosts and minimum temperatures down to -5°/-7°c. Grow in sun or partial shade in fertile, well-drained soil. It benefits from regular watering during the summer.Botanical Information
