Genus of about 600 species of monoecious, semi-deciduous or evergreen trees and shrubs, widely distributed in woodlands and scrublands of the Northern Hemisphere. The Simonk oak is a deciduous tree up to 12-15 m tall, with expanded foliage especially in isolated specimens. Lobed leaves, light green, 8-10 cm long. This hybrid, originating from the cross between Q. frainetto and Q. robur, is found sporadically in Italy and central Europe and has intermediate characteristics between the two progenitor species. Use Ideal for creating groves or as an isolated tree.
Pedoclimatic needs
It prefers deep, fertile, well-drained soils, adapting even to heavy and clayey ones. It should be planted in full sun. Quercus haynaldianum is partially rustic and resists frost down to -14°/-16°c.Botanical Information
