Genus of about 600 species of monoecious, semi-deciduous or evergreen trees and shrubs, widely distributed in woodlands and scrub of the Northern Hemisphere. Quercus petraea is a deciduous, spreading tree with gray crested bark and variable ovate, obovate or oblong leaves, dark green, with rounded lobes. The acorns without stalks, from ovoid to oblong-ovoid, are borne singly or in bunches of 2-5. It can reach 30 m in height.
Pedoclimatic needs
Grow in deep, fertile, well-drained soil but also adapts to compact and partially clayey soil. Rustic species, it tolerates cold and even intense and prolonged frosts down to -18°-20°c. It does not tolerate drought and young plants must be watered regularly during the summer. It should be planted in full sun.Botanical Information
