Deciduous tropical tree up to 20 m tall, spreading crown with highly branched trunk and rough bark. Odd-pinnate leaves up to 10-15 cm long. Small yellow flowers gathered in apical inflorescences. The fruits are legumes 10-12 cm long with edible pulp used in many culinary preparations.
Pedoclimatic needs
It adapts to all types of soil. It should be planted in regions with a mild climate where temperatures do not fall below 3/4°C. As an adult, it tolerates drought and prefers sunny exposures. It resists wind and saltiness.
