Genus of about 150 species of deciduous or evergreen trees and shrubs of Europe, Africa and northern Asia and North and Central America. Acer monspessulanum is a small deciduous tree, up to 6-8 meters tall, characterized by dense rounded foliage and greyish bark. The leaves are opposite, shiny, slightly leathery, dark green in color and have 3 lobes and in autumn they take on splendid golden shades. The flowers are small in size and appear gathered in yellowish-green pendulous corymbs. The fruit is a reddish double samara when ripe.

Pedoclimatic needs

Maples are suitable for any type of garden depending on the species and size. Acer monspessulanum adapts to all types of soil, preferring fresh and well-drained ones but is also suitable for growing in dry and stony ones. It likes exposure in full sun or partial shade. Partially rustic plant, it tolerates minimum temperatures reaching -10°/-12°c.
