Genus of around 60 species of deciduous trees and shrubs originating from different habitats, woods, peat bogs, mountains and moors throughout the northern hemisphere. Betula pendula is a splendid tree that can reach 30 m in height. It has one or more erect and slender trunks, the bark is smooth and thin, white in color and peels off in thin silvery gray horizontal stripes. The branches have a magnificent drooping habit, from which it takes its origin

the species. The 4-6 cm long leaves have a serrated edge and are light gray on the lower side and bright green on the upper side. In autumn before fall, the leaves take on beautiful golden yellow colours. The pendula birch, in addition to being a splendid tree, also has multiple medicinal properties.

Pedoclimatic needs

It has no particular needs regarding the soil, it adapts to poor or humus-rich soils, it tolerates water stagnation and low temperatures down to -20°c well. It prefers sunny positions and cool climates; suffers where summer temperatures are too high.
