Genus of about 6 species of deciduous trees and shrubs of the Mediterranean regions, central and eastern Asia and North America. Cercis canadensis is a deciduous tree up to 7-8 meters tall, characterized by a twisted trunk and wide foliage. The leaves are simple, alternate heart-shaped with entire margins. The flowers are quite showy, of a more or less dark pink color and appear in spring on the branches and trunk. The fruit is a brown pod that ripens between September and October.

Pedoclimatic needs

It adapts to all types of soil, preferring well-drained ones. Grow in full sun or partial shade. Rustic species, it tolerates minimum temperatures reaching -10°/-15°C. Much appreciated for the beautiful flowering that occurs before the leaves appear, it is used in parks and gardens along avenues or as isolated individuals. Being a species of limited growth, it is also suitable for small gardens.
