Genus of about 45 species of mainly deciduous shrubs and small trees, coming from northern temperate regions. Cornus mas is a shrub or small deciduous tree, vigorously expanded, with ovate, dark gray leaves that turn purple-red in autumn. At the end of winter, before the leaves, it produces yellow flowers in small umbels. The fleshy, vivid red oblong-ellipsoid fruits are produced in late summer and are edible when ripe. It can reach 5 m in height.

Pedoclimatic needs

Grow in fresh, fertile, humus-rich, well-drained, neutral to acidic soil, in sun and partial shade. Rustic species tolerates low temperatures down to -15°-/18°C
