Genus of over 200 species of deciduous, evergreen trees and shrubs of the woods or rocky areas of the northern temperate regions of Europe, Asia and northern Africa. Cotonaster horizontalis is a deciduous shrub with a prostrate habit, up to 50-100 cm tall. It has small, leathery, oval, dark green leaves. Flowering occurs between May and June and the flowers are pinkish white, placed along the branches in the leaf axils. The fruit is a small spherical red berry which gives the plant a pleasant decorative appearance in autumn and winter.

Pedoclimatic needs

It adapts to all types of soil, as long as there is no water stagnation. It likes exposure in full sun or partial shade. Rustic plant, it resists minimum temperatures reaching -10°/- 15°C. This species is particularly suitable as a ground cover on slopes, where it forms a dense, very decorative cover.
