Plant Description

Genus of over 200 species of deciduous, evergreen trees and shrubs of the woods or rocky areas of the northern temperate regions of Europe, Asia and northern Africa. Cotonaster lacteus is a dense evergreen shrub up to 3-4 m tall, with arched branches bearing obovate or broadly elliptical leaves 3-4 cm long, dark green on the upper surface and with yellow-white felt on the lower one. In summer it produces numerous milky-white apical inflorescences followed by ovoid red fruits, which persist on the plant all winter until late spring, giving it a very decorative appearance.

Pedoclimatic needs

It prefers fresh, moderately fertile and well-drained soil. It can be grown in sun or partial shade. Fairly rustic species, it resists cold and frost down to -12°/-15°C. This species cannot tolerate prolonged drought and must be watered regularly during the dry season. It can be grown as a free hedge, isolated or in groups to create patches of colour.
