Genus of over 200 species of herbaceous annuals and perennials, deciduous and evergreen, widely distributed in warm-temperate, subtropical and tropical regions, where they live in various habitats. Hibiscus syriacus is an erect, deciduous shrub, with ovate to rhomboidal, coarsely toothed, dark green leaves, up to 10 cm long. From late summer to mid-autumn it bears numerous trumpet-shaped flowers, which can be white, pink or purple, up to 6 cm wide, with white stamens with yellow anthers. They are produced singly or in pairs from the leaf axils. It can reach 3 m in height.

Pedoclimatic needs

Grow in humiferous, moist but well-drained, neutral to slightly alkaline soil, in full sun. Rustic species, it tolerates cold and prolonged even intense frosts, resisting minimum temperatures down to -12°/-16°C.
