Plant Description

Genus of about 15 species of deciduous trees, sometimes shrubs, spontaneous in the wooded regions of south-eastern Europe, Asia, North America and northern South America. Juglas nigra is a deciduous tree, spreading, vigorous with pinnate, aromatic leaves, up to 60 cm long, composed of 11-23 dark green, ovate-oblong leaflets that in autumn take on a beautiful golden yellow color. The black walnut is grown as an ornamental or for its timber, being much faster in growth than the white walnut. Its nuts can be eaten but have a very hard peel and little pulp and are therefore not of commercial interest. It can reach 30 m in height.

Pedoclimatic requirements

Grow in fertile, well-drained and deep soil, preferably in full sun. It requires large spaces to allow the crown to develop freely. Rustic species resistant to cold and frost up to -15°/-18°C.
