Genus including 4 species of monoecious deciduous trees that live mainly in the humid forests of Asia, America and Mexico. The Liquidambar styraciflua is a large deciduous tree that can reach 25-30 meters in height. It has a slender and very branched trunk. The crown is initially pyramidal and becomes oval in adult specimens. The leaves are alternate, palmate, with a dark green serrated edge, while in autumn, before fall, they take on magnificent red shades. The flowers are not very showy, yellow-green in colour. The fruit is a globose infructescence, woody when ripe.

Pedoclimatic needs

It adapts to all types of soil, preferring those that are well drained, humid, deep and rich in organic substance. It prefers full sun exposure but tolerates partial shade. Rustic species, it tolerates minimum temperatures reaching -18°/- 20°C.
