Nandina domestica - nandina (Forest Alveolus)

Genus of a species of evergreen or semi-evergreen shrubs, with alternate, pinnate and tripennate leaves, with lanceolate leaves, native to the mountain valleys of India, China and Japan. Nandina domestica is a small evergreen shrub up to 1.5 m tall, with a rounded and compact shape. Glossy green compound leaves in spring and scarlet red in winter. White flowers in large inflorescences followed in autumn by numerous very decorative, bright red fruits; these remain on the plant for most of the winter.

Pedoclimatic needs

It prefers rich, fresh and well-drained soil but adapts to all types of soil, except those with a high limestone content. Partially rustic species, it resists short frosts down to -5 / -7 °C. In case of severe frosts, repair with non-woven fabric. It prefers sunny positions, also adapting to partial shade.
