Plant Description

Genus of about 8 species of thorny shrubs and trees, deciduous or evergreen, native to dry, rocky places in woodlands and along waterways from southern Europe to eastern Asia. Paliurus aculeatus is a very branched deciduous shrub up to 4-5 meters high. It has flexible twigs with prickly and rigid spines 5-8 mm long. The leaves are alternate, with short petiole, oval, leathery and bright green in color. The flowers, gathered in umbrella-shaped inflorescences, are small in size and yellow in colour. The fruit is a drupe which takes on a brown color when ripe.

Pedoclimatic needs

It adapts to any type of soil, as long as it is well drained. It likes exposure in full sun or partial shade. Rustic plant, it resists minimum temperatures reaching -8°/-10°C.
