Plant Description

Genus of about 10 species of trees characteristic of the American tropical and subtropical regions, according to some authors the genus would fall into albizia. Samanea tubulosa is a semi-deciduous tree with rapid growth up to 15-20 meters tall. It has a characteristic umbrella-shaped crown especially in isolated specimens that in the largest plants can reach 30 meters in diameter. The bark of the trunk and the main branches, light brown, has characteristic corky excrescences.
The paripinnate leaves are composed of 8-10 pairs of leaflets. In spring the flowers appear, similar to those of albizia which are scented and gathered in pinkish white inflorescences. The fruits are cylindrical and curved legumes, up to 15-20 cm long similar to carob, which in the countries of origin are also used as feed for livestock.

Pedoclimatic needs
Subtropical tree that adapts well to the Mediterranean climate. Non-rustic species that resists temperatures up to +2/+4°c. It adapts to all types of soil as long as loose and without stagnation, preferring sandy ones. Grow in sunny exposures and large spaces to allow the crown to expand freely.
