Plant Description

Genus of almost 100 species of deciduous or evergreen shrubs and small trees, distributed throughout the northern hemisphere. Elaeagnus angustifolia is a shrub or small deciduous tree up to 8-10 m tall, with a compact and rounded crown. The bark of the young branches is silvery green, while that of the trunk and main branches is brown and very fissured. The lanceolate leaves are light green, silvery white on the underside. In late spring, it produces numerous small yellow flowers, intensely scented. The fruits are small, fleshy, sweet drupes, with an excellent flavour.

Pedoclimatic needs

It should be grown in full sun in open and ventilated environments. It adapts to almost all types of soil as long as it is not too calcareous.
Very resistant to wind and salt, it is ideal for hedges and coastal gardens. Quite rustic species, resistant to low temperatures up to -10°/-12°C.
