Evergreen shrub up to 3-4 m tall, with erect stems and opposite branches. The leaves have a lanceolate blade, rarely elliptical, leathery, with an entire margin, glabrous on the top, shiny and dark green, with tufts of hair along the veins. The fragrant flowers appear in opposite, dense and terminal corymbs. The calyx has 5 sepals and the corolla is bell-shaped, white or suffused with pink. Flowering occurs from December to April. The fruit is an ovoid drupe of a metallic grey-blue color when ripe, present on the plant from June to October.

Pedoclimatic needs

It adapts to all types of soil, preferring fresh and well-drained ones. It prefers partial shade but also tolerates full sun well. Partially rustic plant, it tolerates temperatures reaching -6°/-8°C.
